We’re overflowing with fitness facts to share with you as we are approaching the end of November's 30x30 fitness challenge, here’s some more to add to your growing bag of facts!
1. Did you know you use 200 muscles to take a single step? Every time you take a step, you use around 1/3 of the muscles in your body, not all of them are in your legs?
2. Did you know that when you break a sweat, your blood pressure lowers for 16 hours afterwards?
3. Did you know standing alone (or with a friend!) burns an average of 100-200 calories, versus sitting?
4. Did you know if you don’t regularly exercise you could lose up to 80% of your muscle strength by the age of 65?
5. Did you know your heart is the hardest working muscle in your body? It beats approximately 100,000 times per day, pumping almost 2,000 gallons of blood around your body.
6. Did you know the knee is the largest and most complex joint in your body? Which makes it most likely to be injured.
7. Did you know muscle can’t turn in to fat?! They’re completely different types of tissue.
8. Did you know aerobic exercise leads to neuron generation? Which acts as a buffer to reduce the effects of dementia, and increases cognitive performance.
9. Did you know starting after the age of 30 people can lose 3-5% of their muscle mass per decade?
10. Did you know women burn more fat than men during exercise?
11. (however) Did you know men tend to burn more fat post workout than women?
12. Did you know staying active reduces your risk of many cancers?
13. Did you know people who are single work out more than those who are married?
14. Did you know it only takes 2.5 hours of moderate physical activity to see cardiovascular benefits?
15. Did you know you’re more likely to stick to an exercise plan if you work out with a partner?
